Welcome to the Kilcormac
Meals on Wheels service

The KDA remains committed to its core mission while recognising the importance of forward planning to ensure the sustainability of its existing services and the initiation of new projects. Among its noteworthy achievements in recent years is the establishment of the Kilcormac Meals On Wheels program.

SE - KDA - Meals on Wheels

Launched a decade ago, Kilcormac Meals on Wheels has thrived, serving a substantial geographical area that spans much of mid/west Offaly.

Empowering Independence:

The primary goal of this program is to assist older and vulnerable members of the community in maintaining their independence. It achieves this by delivering hot, nourishing meals to those who may struggle to prepare or obtain their own food.

Fostering Social Interaction:

Beyond the nutritional benefits, the service also fosters social interaction, recognizing the importance of human contact and community inclusion. For many recipients, the delivery may be their only meaningful interaction of the day.

Education and Employment Opportunities:

The Meals on Wheels service offers valuable placements for CE and TUS participants, providing essential educational, training, and employment opportunities.

Community Collaboration:

Collaboration with Healthcare Professionals, Volunteers, Offaly Healthy Homes, CE, TUS, HSE, POBAL and Local Disability Services further supports the broader goals of social inclusion.

Exceptional Value for money:

Remarkably, this not-for-profit service provides exceptional value for money, with users enjoying a hot, nutritious meal and dessert delivered directly to their door.

Sustained by funding:

To sustain and expand its operations, the program relies on funding from the HSE, various grants and generous donations.

Inclusive Access:

The service has been designed with inclusivity in mind. There is no special criteria for being added to the Meals on Wheels list, and age is not a determining factor. Applications are considered on a case-by-case basis, accommodating individuals convalescing from surgery or injury, those facing illness, living with a disability, or anyone unable to prepare meals for various reasons. The service’s flexibility allows for individuals to be on the list for as short as six weeks or for longer periods, such as six months or indefinitely, based on their specific circumstance. This inclusive approach ensures that the program is accessible to all members of the community who may need it, regardless of their age or situation.

In essence, the KDA’s Meals on Wheels program extends far beyond the provision of meals; it offers essential human contact and community engagement, significantly enhancing the quality of life for those it serves.

If you or a loved one would like to go on the Meals on Wheels list please fill out the referral form or contact us through our contact if you have any questions.
